The weekly CBS News anchor and 1988 Mahwah High School graduate Chris Wragge visited his alma mater in October and recorded segments for Thunderbird TV’s Friday announcements using equipment funded by the Mahwah Schools Foundation (MSF). TV production is a joint effort of the Student Government and digital media students.
The Foundation has funded a number of equipment grants in recent years to support the high school’s Digital Media and Digital Film Production courses. “Without the MSF’s support, there simply wouldn’t be a digital media program,” says Dennis Miguel, who teaches both highly sought after electives. He adds that the Mahwah program “leads the pack” amongst local school districts.
Most recently, the MSF funded the purchase of professional-grade camera equipment for use in Miguel’s Digital Film Production course. The course, based on a college-level curriculum, allows students the opportunity to earn college credits through Seton Hall University.
Currently the class is creating short films in the horror genre utilizing the new equipment.
Miguel emphasizes his students’ understanding of how fortunate they are to be learning with industry-grade equipment. “They are so grateful for the MSF’s support!”
